In this post I will be researching photographers linked to chosen brief of magazines. I will focus on their style and the type of media products they produce. I hope to gain inspiration from their techniques in order to make a good magazine that suits the brief. I think understanding the photographers for the magazines will help me to efficiently create my own magazine and website. In conclusion I have learnt that typically for magazine front covers photographers often have close ups of the celebrity and only deviate to show an important background or scene. I also learnt that photographers usually have a style (e.g. colour themes, camera angles, shot types etc)- in my work I will stick to a specific style for my photographs. The photographers I have researched tend to use close ups or long shots to influence the audience. Testino tends to use bright colours for his photography, similar to Knights eccentric style. However Leibovitz uses more low key lighting in her work....

Statement of Intent

Statement of intent- I intend to create front covers and contents pages for two editions of an entertainment magazine for Hearst UK. I also need to create an online counterpart that clearly links to and promotes the magazine, with a homepage and linking page. I will use the four areas of the media theoretical framework, of which include representation, language, industry and audience, to create meaning and meet the requirements of my chosen brief. The first edition of my magazine will feature a female pop singer, this will be a mid-shot to follow the typical conventions of an entertainment magazine. I will ensure the chosen subject/model appeals to the target audience provided by the brief (a fun loving 16-25 year old mass market demographic). It is typical of entertainment magazines to use female models as a form of male-gaze, I could use this theory when creating my products in order to attract a male audience.
